LaserCard Corporation Announces $1.8 Million Follow-On Order for Optical Memory-Based Canadian Permanent Resident Cards

06.03.2006 - LaserCard Corporation (NASDAQ:LCRD) today announced receipt of a $1.8 million purchase order from Anteon Corporation (Anteon) for LaserCard® optical memory-based Canadian Permanent Resident Cards expected to be delivered over a 14-month period beginning May 2006 at a rate of approximately $130,000.00 per month.

This follow-on order is a continuation of the 2002 five-year contract awarded by the Canadian government to Canadian Bank Note Company, Ltd. (CBN) of Ottawa. LCRD has received orders for nearly three million cards to date under its Anteon subcontract. Anteon is a subcontractor to CBN, and provides personalization system engineering support and consumables.

As stated on the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) "On December 31, 2003, the Permanent Resident Card became the proof of status document required by permanent residents seeking to re-enter Canada on a commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train or bus). CIC was intent on finding a convenient, secure, private and durable replacement for (a relatively insecure paper document). The PR card not only addresses these concerns, but also includes state-of-the-art security features, making it extremely resistant to forgery and alteration."

"We are very pleased that optical memory was able to meet the Canadian government’s security challenge and with the continuing success of the program," said Richard Haddock, CEO of LaserCard Corporation. "It is one of more than ten government programs using optical memory cards around the world. This is why the LaserCard optical memory card is now widely recognized as the most advanced technology in the secure ID arena. The continuing Canadian commitment is an endorsement of the technology’s unequalled security."
