LaserCard Corporation Announces "LaserPass" – Enabling the World's Most Secure Electronic ID Solution for the 21st Century Unites Optical IDLock Document Security and RFID

18.04.2006 - LaserCard Corporation (NASDAQ:LCRD) today announced the launch of the LaserPass™ secure ID card, combining RFID technology with the Company’s optical memory technology to enable the world's most secure electronic identity solution. For the first time, nations, businesses and individuals can have the unbreachable ID document security provided by optical memory and the convenience of RFID in a single card. Security officials will be able to view a demonstration of the card at the CardTech/SecureTech Show May 2-4, 2006 at LaserCard's booth #518. Depending upon the RFID chip technology selected by the customer, LaserCard anticipates it will accept orders beginning in June, 2006.

"Experts in border, airport, seaport, utility, industrial and commercial security are looking for the most reliable technology to keep people and facilities safe. However, they are also looking for the ability to enhance and facilitate the ID verification process," said Richard Haddock, president and CEO of LaserCard Corporation. "We have designed the state-of-the-art ID document by leveraging the strengths of two complementary technologies that meet these real-world needs."
LaserPass employs emerging RFID (radio frequency identification) technology to expedite border crossings and remotely identify individuals. By combining RFID with the proven counterfeit-resistant and tamperproof strengths of optical memory, LaserPass addresses the privacy and security vulnerability concerns of relying solely on RFID to protect a nation's borders or people. In so doing, LaserCard has enabled the world's most secure ID solution, which truly bridges today’s reality of human/visual document checks with the future of wide-scale machine readability and authentication.

"RFID provides facilitation, but it by itself is not a secure identity document," said Haddock. "An optical memory card is a secure document, and provides a forensically validateable credential, which is essential for the prosecution of attempted fraud or counterfeiting. No IC chip-based card alone is such a document. Optical cards have been proven in high profile government ID programs worldwide and, most significantly, there is no known case of its data security being compromised."
"Building on our extensive experience, we have combined key elements of our optical memory technology into "Optical IDLock," a highly sophisticated layering and blending of overt, covert and forensic security and identity management features," Haddock continued. "Collectively they make each card uniquely counterfeit resistant, tamper evident and permanently locked to the identity of the cardholder. No other technology can deliver this."

LaserPass addresses all the essential security and application requirements for a secure Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative PASS Card. The company's proven made-in-the-U.S.A. solution for U.S. border security is also ideally suited for the anticipated Temporary Guest-Worker Card.
