 ResearchInChina just published its new report: China IC Card and Smart Card
Industry Report, 2007-2008 (second edition). The report contains analysis and
forecast for China IC card market, focus on the six key global IC chip suppliers, and nearly 50 manufacturers in China of IC card chip, card operating systems, card packaging and IC card device. According to China Information Industry Trade Association, IC card shipment in China was 1.08 billion cards in 2005, up 91.8% year-on-year; and the shipment value increased 11.1% to CNY 5.6 billion (EUR 650 million). In 2006, the shipment was 1.676 billion cards, rising 55.2% year-on-year; and the shipment value rose 32.4% to CNY 7.4 billion (EUR 860 million). The shipment reached 1.993 billion cards in 2007, ascending 19% compared to 2006; and the shipment value was CNY 8.2 billion (EUR 950 million), only increased 9%, which was mainly due to the price drop, especially the dramatic price drop of SIM cards. ResearchInChina estimates that IC card shipment in China will reach 2.02 billion cards by the end of 2008, and the shipment value will reach CNY 9.21 billion (EUR 1.1 billion). The report includes data about chip and card manufacturers with operations in China as well as systems integrators, card reader suppliers, and personalization companies.
