Four villages from Maharashtra mainly from coastal area of the country have been selected by the Central government to get smart card, according to IBN news. They have started collecting information which includes house number, information of first person and thumb impression of the person.
After Rajasthan and Haryana, Nagaland became the first state in the northeast to launch the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families’ card scheme. This nationwide scheme, known as Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) or health insurance scheme for BPL families, has also reached Nagaland.
Under the scheme, a smart card will be issued to BPL families in the unorganized sector, in which beneficiaries can avail medical treatment up to INR 30,000 (EUR 471) in any designated hospital. By showing their cards to any ‘empanelled hospital’, they can avail the benefits of medical treatment.
